Keeping companies and brands on the front foot is a proactive communications process

Communications is the natural discipline to solve for issues and crises. But being ready for risks is a proactive communications process that begins well before an issue has already raised its head.

Readiness, whether for risk or opportunity, is almost akin to reputation, a topic we discussed at the PRomise Foundation THRIVE meeting in Sri Lanka earlier this year.  Readiness needs attention and active preparation.

We covered how preparation for risk is different from scenario planning, the exploration of “what ifs” that can impact a company or brand. While a standard part of the comms playbook, typical ‘scenario planning’ exercises can be a distraction, explained risk expert speaker Amit Narayan in his session at THRIVE, that can take teams down rabbit holes, and spending time and resources on left-field scenarios.

This discussion added to those I’d been having with my own team about readiness, and how brand and company leaders need to have comprehensive context for opportunities, milestones (IPO, product launch, data read-outs) and the issues that could negatively impact their business and reputation.  They need to know the presence AND absence of key media and qualitative signals, especially given AI-mediated discovery. They don’t need volumes of information – they need intelligence including competitive, what it means, and the steps to fill gaps and take action with the confidence of context.

I’m happy to now introduce a new Readiness Intelligence suite of offerings at the intersection of human experience and AI:

  • The Readiness Index assesses four areas of readiness including leadership, organizational, market and cultural.
  • The Risk Readiness Index provides unbiased assessments of key triggers
  • Launch Readiness Index, critical information brand and comms need while planning a distinctive and impactful product or indication introduction.

All Readiness Indexes deliver what media monitoring, social listening and off-the-shelf LLM support don’t:  synthesized unbiased intelligence, actionable insights and suggested next steps.
